The Atholton Band is a dynamic and artistic group of students participating in concert, percussion, jazz, and marching ensembles. Persevering as a team through musical challenges, and pushing themselves to achieve at a high level, students form bonds and lifelong friendships that positively affect their lives beyond the stage.
In 2014 the Atholton Band Program was honored to receive the National Band Association's Eastern Division Program of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award and was one of eight finalists for the national award. The Atholton Wind Ensemble has performed at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival in both 2011 and 2016 and the Maryland Music Educators' Conference in 2018.

Atholton Bands Philosophy
Knowing that the vast majority of our students will not pursue music beyond high school, we encourage personal growth through achievement in music. This is very challenging and only through positive efforts on the part of everybody involved can true excellence be achieved. The more effort put into the experience, the more rewarding the experience will be!
We want students to experience musical and artistic excellence in order to persevere with others in working towards a common goal and also to create an appreciation for the performing arts and artists. Through these efforts students will learn life-lessons they can apply to their chosen field.

Purpose, Goals, and Objectives
Whether students continue music in college or not, become professional musicians or patrons of the arts, we encourage personal growth through achievement in music, which is a very challenging but rewarding experience. We aim to provide a positively rewarding experience for each student, unlike any other activity, by:

We aim to provide a positively rewarding experience for each student, unlike any other activity, by:
- Providing students with the opportunity for worthy use of their time, a means for expression, and a healthy social experience.
- Developing abilities to function as a responsible member of a team.
- Fostering teamwork and leadership skills in each student.
- Providing for the needs of the community.
- Learning about music through its actual performance.
- Developing performance skills on students' primary instruments.
- Developing a high sense of appreciation for, and critical discrimination of, quality music.
Attitude
The success of any group of people or individual is directly related to attitude. Your attitude is an individual choice, made by you and you alone. Attitude can be the difference between reaching your full potential or not; you will move in the direction that you are thinking.
Is Band Considered “Fun?”
YES, but there are other words that describe the band experience such as challenging, fulfilling, emotional, and passionate – there is almost no experience that is more REWARDING! The enjoyment of band comes from the interaction of people that ultimately leads to great music making, which in turn creates an overall worthwhile, memorable, and fun experience.
